Bio / Science / Art - My notes about a Lecture at Aalto University (School of Art, Design and Architecture) by Catherine Kuebel and my own research about my interests

Contemporary world:
- Environmental Crisis
- Economical Crisis: Financial loses - forces that make the factories think in changing to sustinable sources.
- Post-oil world: imagine the world that you want. Critical based research - paradigm = ART
- The last 10 years: Global data, as an on going process - everything is connected.
- The development of physycs: quantum physics - 11 dimensions.
It changes our knowledge of Time and Space.

- Human genome project: to map the human genome. The code of life. "We can think that we will control it". Genetic profile or genetic fingerprint: the pattern of DNA UNIQUE to each individual that can be analysed in a sample of blood, saliva, or tissue:used as a means of identification - identity - contemporary portrait?

Human body as an ecosystem.
Scale: micro - macro - panoramic: diagrams.
Interspecies DNA - exchange of DNA material in between species.
The human DNA is contamine with interspecies DNA
Host - Host - Host
It is difficult to clarify what is exactly a human being.

Over the 20th centuary - New tecnologies.
Objectifying really personal feelings

Katharine Dowson created a glass sculpture based on images of her cousin's benign brain tumour. Lasers were used both in the treatment of the tumour and in the etching of the sculpture, entitled Brain Malformation.

Annie Cattrell's "Pleasure/Pain" is a 3D printed sculpture of the active areas of a small region in the brainstem as revealed by MRI scans when it is experiencing pleasure or pain.

Pig Wings by Ionat Zurr & Oron Catts - a triptych of three pairs of wings created out of lab-grown pig cells, displayed like jewels in tiny boxes

Helen Pynor has also created a series of beautiful composite photos, in one case -- Liquid Ground -- depicting the process of drowning with real human organs submerged under water.
